UNIEP, the International Union of painting contractors, was founded on the 23rd of October 1953 by pioneers of national associations that foresaw back then the importance international unions would have in an interlinked world like today’s. The founding meeting took place in Paris
Eight countries and ten national associations founded UNIEP :
Belgium (Federation nationale des Entrepreneurs de Peinture et decor de Belgique)
Denmark (Centralforeningen af Malermestre i Danmark)
Germany (Hauptverband des deutschen Malerhandwerks)
France (Union Nationale des Peintres Vitriers de France)
Italy (Associazione Nazionale Construttori Edili et Settore Nazionale Lavori affini a l’Edilizia)
Luxemburg (Fédération des Patrons Peintres et Vitriers du Grand Duché de Luxembourg)
Netherlands (Centrale van Schilderspatroonsorganisatie in Nederland)
Switzerland (Association suisse des maitres platriers peintres et Fédération romande des maitres plâtriers peintres)
The constituent meeting was chaired by Mr Pierre Laurent, which was also UNIEP’s first ever president. The first status of UNIEP, which were temporarily adopted during the constituent meeting, were definitely adopted by the Delegated assembly on the 3rd October 1963 in Zurich.
Since 10 March 1997 UNIEP has been registered in the national register of associations in Luxemburg, matriculation number 1995 6103 161.
Since 6 July 2006 UNIEP is as well registered at "Registre de Commerce et des Sociétés" in Luxemburg, registration number F2820.
